Gotta do the 2wd extended cab long bed, with the 4 cyl engine, in one of the bottom two trim levels.

Can't get the locker or tow pkg with it though. I would personally get the manual just to not have to deal with the atrocious shifter in the auto.

A TRD Tacoma is 3 grand less than a Z71 and its about the same for the frontier. The diesel option is going to be well into the 40's

Autoblog link. 26 mpg highway which is way better than the competition. That's with the V6. I can't wait for the diesel.

If I bought the 4 cylinder petrol motor a turbo would be in the pipeline (get it, ha).

This is the way I'd get it. But I'm still not as sold on this guy as everyone else. I don't think it looks that good and the mileage isn't that great either. I'd take a ram instead, either with a Hemi or Ecodiesel.

After digging through the configurator then discussing it with their chat help, I am sorely disappointed to learn that you cannot get a 4wd with the 6-speed stick. That absolutely seals the deal with me... I was prepping to get a Z71 4WD kitted out as my 1st ever new vehicle purchase... so long as I could avoid the slushbox.

Still saddened by the MPG

Really? For a V6 this is class leading. 26 mpg on highway is not bad for a 300 hp truck.

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah I'm thrilled with the power don't get me wrong.

But the Sierra is getting 24 with an even bigger engine - the 4.3L (which is what I wanted them to put in the Colorado/Canyon).

And to me it's only 24 because if I buy one of these in the future it's a 4x4, no question asked. I was just hoping for 26/27 out of the 4x4.

Kinja'd!!! mcseanerson > MontegoMan562 is a Capri RS Owner

If I get a bigger motor I want nothing less than the 5.3

Kinja'd!!! MontegoMan562 is a Capri RS Owner > mcseanerson
09/04/2014 at 10:31

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah I understand wanting a 5.3L in it. Man, Colorado SS anyone?!?!?!

My problem is I want it to replace my 07 Mercury Milan V6 in a few years 2.5 left on the loan and it might be nice to take the extra 6 months off of car loans. The Milan is rated to 27 hwy out of its 3.0 V6. It's a great little car and it's saved me my whole car payment (every month) in gas/maintenance vs my 04 Chevy Blazer 4 dr 4x4 I traded in for it. But I have a long commute and I was really hoping to match or beat it in mpg when I trade it in.

It's asking a LOT from a small pickup to deliver, but man do I miss my 4x4. The Milan does fine, and i made it through the worst winter in Detroit history last year without even snow tires (all seasons!) so it's functional, just not anywhere near as fun.

09/04/2014 at 10:33

Kinja'd!!!0

Well I'm pretty sure epa fuel economy figures were refined to be tougher since then so on those figures it's probably closer to your milan's mileage.

09/04/2014 at 10:44

Kinja'd!!!0

yea but Ive actually locked the Milan in with cruise control at 31 mpg lol. Ford USED to give under estimated numbers (instead of the over estimating lately).

I'll have to see how the budget works out in a few years when I can get one. I'll have to keep in mind I'm getting a hell of a lot more capability while only sacrificing a few mpgs. I mean they are supposed to be able to max tow like 6-7k pounds right?
